The Persistence Of Memory

The Persistence of Memory is a painting by Salvador Dali. This painting is famous with its melted clocks. The clocks are making it interesting.
In this painting there are four clocks that show different times and has different colors and styles. There is even a fly on one of the clocks. The reason why the clocks are melting is because the artist tries to describe the wasted moments and the limit of our lives. Every clock represents different kinds of humans since they all show different times and they have different styles. In this painting the painter says that every human has a limited time and it is flying. We can understand that the time is flying by looking at the melting clocks, because if something is melting than it means that that things is going to disappear. In this drawing melting is a negative thing. There are two parts in this drawing: the part with the mountain and the part with the clocks. The part with the clocks doesn't have sun light, but the other part does. It shows that the part with the clocks symbolizes a bad emotion like loneliness or sadness. The part with the mountain symbolizes a good emotion like freedom or happiness. The colors that are used in this picture are mostly brown, orange and red. These colors are dark colors that makes the drawing a little bit depressive. In the foreground we can see the clocks, the table, a twig and a rock. In the background there is a mountain, a rectangular shaped wood and the sea.
The emotion that the painter tries to give are negative emotions. There are no people in this drawing which makes the drawing lonely. There is a significant contrast between the table and the twig, because the twig is something that is natural but the table was made by humans. The reason why the clocks are on an island is to give the emotion of loneliness, because islands are used mostly to represent loneliness and fear, since there are no people. Because of the island this drawing represents loneliness. The light is not in everywhere, so that's why it also represents sadness because there isn't light on the clocks.
The message that the artist tried to give is not to waste our times because everybody has a limited amount of time. He says that every clocks is going to melt one day.
